Armenia, US Formalize Partnership on Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy

(MENAFN) Armenia and the United States on Monday formalized a joint statement outlining cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The Joint Statement on the Completion of Negotiations on an Agreement for Peaceful Nuclear Cooperation was signed following discussions between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and US Vice President JD Vance. Vance’s visit marked the first time a sitting US vice president traveled to the South Caucasus nation.

Speaking at a joint press conference after the talks, Pashinyan said the statement will mark a new chapter, strengthening the energy partnership between the two countries, according to reports. He emphasized that the agreement will help diversify Armenia’s energy resources and expressed appreciation for the US’s long-standing support in the field of nuclear security.

Pashinyan also announced that Armenia is purchasing V-BAT reconnaissance drones from the United States under the Foreign Military Sales program.

Vance clarified that the deal involves “$11 million in surveillance drone technology,” saying: “He’s (Pashinyan) gonna use that to secure his country and to make sure that the peace we’re creating sticks.”

He added that the sale also benefits the US, noting, “That means, for the United States, more jobs and more investment in our own defense technology sector.”
