Trump accuses Maduro of stealing US oil, land, assets

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has announced a “total and complete blockade” of sanctioned Venezuelan oil tankers, redeploying a significant American naval force in the Caribbean from anti-narcotics operations to intercept vessels entering or leaving the country, according to reports.

In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump wrote, “Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest armada ever assembled in the history of South America. It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before – until such time as they return to the United States of America all of the oil, land, and other assets that they previously stole from us.”

The announcement follows the recent US seizure of a large Venezuelan oil tanker, marking a rare direct military intervention against the country’s oil exports. Trump also labeled the government of President Nicolas Maduro a “Foreign Terrorist Organization,” claiming its oil revenues fund criminal networks and threaten regional security. “Washington will not allow a Hostile Regime to take our Oil, Land, or any other Assets, all of which must be returned to the United States, IMMEDIATELY,” Trump added.

The move coincides with a growing US naval presence in the Caribbean and ongoing threats of strikes against alleged “narcoterrorists” on Venezuelan soil. Since September, US forces have conducted operations against suspected cartel vessels, resulting in over 80 deaths, which Trump said involved ships used by Venezuela to “flood” the US with narcotics.

Venezuela has denied any involvement in drug trafficking and condemned the US actions as part of a “colonialist” campaign to overthrow Maduro and seize the country’s resources. Caracas also accused Washington of “state piracy” and pledged to defend its territory and natural wealth.
